On August 19th, 2021, Go Auto acquired the Cowell Automotive Group. Since its inception, the Cowell Automotive Group has been committed to superior customer service, building long-lasting relationships with their customers, and serving the community. Cowell and Go Auto's alignment in core values and vision for the perfect car-buying experience made the transition into one automotive family the perfect fit. Go Auto is dedicated to carrying on the legacy and impact that the Cowell family and their team have built over the past 55 years!
It began over 50 years ago on December 1, 1967, when founder, Gary Cowell, opened a Volkswagen dealership in Richmond, British Columbia. On that very first day, he sold a brand-new VW Beetle from their tiny dealership on No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway. That intersection that boasted the first traffic light in Richmond is now considered to be the center of the city. Richmond has grown from a small sleepy community of 35,000 to a major city with a population of over 215,000. As Richmond grew, so did the Cowell Automotive Group, moving to a larger brand-new location next door. They later added an Audi branded dealership in 1972.
In the early 1980s, Gary Cowell partnered with several other automotive professionals and began studying the auto mall concept. The concept involved one simple place where consumers could go and find a vehicle that suited all their transportation needs. In October 1985, they turned that vision into the Richmond Auto Mall, one of the largest complexes of its kind in Canada. Since moving the Cowell Volkswagen and Audi dealerships into the auto mall, they have added the Land Rover (1995) and Jaguar (2002) brands. Audi Richmond and Jaguar Land Rover Richmond are two of the most luxurious dealerships of their respective brands in Western Canada.
In the process, Cowell grew from a small team of four to a group of over 250 staff members, led by Gary’s sons, Rand, and Ryan, who continued to provide their clients with the best car buying and servicing experience in the lower mainland.
The fostering of our dealerships values and culture. We have such a wonderful team

Happy staff equals happy customers, it is ingrained in our culture.”
