Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, and a considerable part of the growing push is that EVs appear to have many environmental and societal benefits compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) cars.

Electric Vehicles reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

Electric vehicles typically have a smaller carbon footprint than gasoline cars, even when accounting for the electricity used for charging. Over its lifetime, the average new electric vehicle produces about half the greenhouse gas emissions of an equivalent vehicle burning gasoline or diesel.

A study by experts at the Union of Concerned Scientists revealed that running electric or hybrid cars on the grid in any state reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to gasoline-powered vehicles. 

According to the U.S. Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, electric vehicles contribute less to climate change and smog than traditional cars because they produce fewer direct emissions.

Electric Vehicles require fewer natural resources.

A European Federation for Transport and Environment calculation found that a traditional car's lifetime fuel consumption requires a tower of oil barrels as high as a 25-story building. In contrast, the metals needed to make an EV battery are about the size of a microwave oven.

While switching to electric vehicles will spur new mining and some environmental harms, the metals in electric vehicle batteries can be recycled.

EV manufacturers use eco-friendly materials.

More and more EV manufacturers are using recycled and organic materials. These eco-friendly materials are used to build lighter and more efficient vehicles. Not only is weight reduction the only benefit of using these materials, but they are also better for the environment.

How? When new materials like metals and plastics are used to build a vehicle, they are unsustainable and create pollution. Using all-natural and recycled materials minimizes the environmental impact during and after EV production.
