You might recall an article we published a few weeks ago.
It stated that in 2016, Canadians were buying vehicles in record-breaking numbers.
Research showed that in March, overall sales across the nation improved 9.3 per cent to 175, 142 for cars and light trucks respectively. DesRosiers Automotive Consultants described it as “the best March on record by a significant margin.”
March’s top sales came after another record month in February and a 9.6 per cent increase from last year’s numbers in January. DesRosiers went on to say that it was a “dream start” to 2016.
It got us thinking… Sure, Canada as a nation was buying more vehicles than ever before, but were Edmontonians too? Was the City of Champions following the national trend?
We crunched the numbers and as it turned out, they were. A whopping 3164 cars and light trucks were sold in January and February of this year in the city of Edmonton.
We didn’t stop there. We wanted to know out of all 3164 vehicles, which ones were the most popular and why.
Let’s refresh your memory.
These were the best selling cars.
These were the best selling trucks.
We took the top vehicles within their segments (the Nissan Micra, Honda Civic, Kia Optima, Volkswagen GTI, Ford Escape, Dodge Journey, Lexus RX Series, Dodge Caravan and Ford F-Series) and covered all the reasons why so many Edmontonians bought them. Want to know what those reasons are? Click here.
The Next Step
Now we’re taking our research one step further. We decided to find how much it would cost to insure one of these new vehicles if you were to buy one.
Below we’ve listed what your bi-weekly payments and total cost of insurance would be if you were to drive one of Edmonton’s favorite picks so far for 2016.
…and now the trucks
*These rates are based on a 30 year old male, whose been insured in Canada for 7+ years, married, has an 8 km daily commute, 15,000KM annual, and has no accidents or traffic tickets, or lapses in insurance coverage. These rates are also only on vehicles Go Auto currently available a Go Auto dealerships.
Based on these rates, it appears the Nissan Micra, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Sonata and the Volkswagen GTI are the least expensive cars to insure. As for light trucks? The Nissan Rogue, Dodge Journey, Dodge Caravan and the Ram 2500 make the smallest dent in your wallet when it comes time to insure.
So now we know what Edmontonians are buying. We also know which of their top choices are the most affordable to insure. So…
What does all of this do for you?
